Blinde Brüder
Bongeh Rodolph (rechts) und
Bongeh Jerrat (links)
Rudolph and Jerrat Bongeh come from Bamessing, Ndop, North-West Region, Cameroon. They were born blind and they have an elder brother who has severe visual difficulties. Their late mother was also blind. So maybe their blindness has to do with some family genetics.

But the amazing thing about these two young gentle men is their zeal for education and not to be frightened and discouraged by their blindness. Rudolph the elder one passed in two GCE A-Levels subjects in 2009 and Jerrat passed in 3 GCE A-Levels papers in 2010. They came to us for financial assistance to pursue their studies at the University of Buea. We saw this as great bravery since so far they have been studying with very rudimentary tools. They lack an adequate Braille machine.

Taking into consideration that we are an organisation that solely depends on donations and did not envisage this case of the blind brothers, we went on a campaign spree. Donations came in from Prof. Dr. Daniel Hoffman of the Department of Bioinformatics at the University of Duisburg-Essen and from Mr and Mrs Werner Schwanke. With this money, we have paid their school fees and their house rents for the academic year 2010/11. They have been immatriculated at the Faculty of Education, Department of Special Education. They intend after their graduation to help other disabled people with their knowledge. This is a concept that we heavily applaud.

Now their education is secured for the 2010/11 academic year and they still lack a Braille machine. With this write-up, we are begging for donations in order that these two brave gentle men can have a successful university education and to be of help to themselves and to their community in the long run. Click here to read their letter of application that they sent to us. We also seize this opportunity to profusely thank Prof. Dr. Daniel Hoffmann and the family of Werner Schwanke for their generous donations. Without this money, these gentle men could not have been at the University of Buea today.
